Ancestors of Clark William HOWELL II

10. Orville Myron TRUAX

Orville is clearly the black sheep of the family.  I will store some published information here later but here is a small collection of some of the things I remember.
I visited daughters Mildred & Maxien back in the 70's.  The older (forgot which) would not talk to me and seemed to have bad memories of him.  The younger told me about his affiliation with the "Woodmen" or "Redmen" or something like that.  She gave me a picture of him in Revolutionary War outfit taken in Binghamton.  I was never able to find any record of the organization or his affiliation.  She also seemed to remember an episode when he worked as a trolley engineer or conductor.  She supposedly took care of him after being beat up for working during a strike.  We have not been able to find any evidence of a trolley strike during those years.  Chuck Spence uncovered a record of second wife Nellie Titus being admitted to the poor house with the children.  I will copy it here later.  Her statement was that her husband was a drunkard and was in jail for arson.  I suspect that the trolley strike story was fictionalized to cover up the results of a bar fight.  I have found no evidence that he ever worked for the trolley company.  The Binghamton directories list him as working for a scissor's factory.
